Tax and Pollution
There’s an easy way to understand Mr Rudd’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Mr Rudd says that we have a problem with carbon pollution in the atmosphere.
Imagine one kilometre of atmosphere that you want to clean up. For the sake of the discussion, imagine you could walk along it.
The first 770 metres are Nitrogen.
The next 210 metres are Oxygen.
That’s 980 metres of the 1 kilometre. Just 20 metres to go.
The next 10 metres are water vapour. Just 10 metres left to go.
9 metres are argon. 1 metre left out of 1 kilometre.
A few gases make up the first bit of that last metre.
The last 38 centimetres of the kilometre – that’s carbon dioxide.
A bit over one foot.
97% is produced by Mother Nature. It’s natural.
Out of our journey of one kilometre, there are just 12 millimetres left. About half an inch. Just over a centimetre.
That’s the amount of carbon dioxide that global human activity puts into the atmosphere.
And of those 12 millimetres Australia puts in .18 of a millimetre.
Less than the thickness of a hair. Out of a kilometre.
As a hair is to a kilometre – so is Australia’s contribution to what Mr Rudd calls Carbon Pollution.
Imagine Brisbane’s new Gateway Bridge, ready to be officially opened by Mr Rudd. It’s been polished, painted and scrubbed by an army of workers till its 1 kilometre length is surgically clean. Except that Mr Rudd says we have a huge problem, the bridge is polluted – by a human hair.
There are plenty of real pollution problems to worry about. It’s hard to imagine that Australia’s contribution to carbon dioxide in the world’s atmosphere is one of the more pressing ones. And I can’t believe that a new tax on everything is the only way to blow that pesky hair away.
Perhaps we all need to just take a few deep breaths.

Roadrage.
No need for an enquiry for the reason why it is simple:-
(1) our young drivers are of the age where they learnt the rules on the game boys i.e. Sony Playstations where they only know one thing and that is flat to the floor and if they crash they go back on the track again .
(2) the roads are designed where we have the left lane at many intersections have a turning arrow or and light to proceed ahead and when the first car does not want to move as per the instruction the second vehicle wants to do what the lights are showing so rage rage is on the cards.
(3) lack of or only one blink of the indicators and they cut the car behind off.
(most times they don't even look)
(4)most drivers in modern cars have the mirrors in the cars not focused correctly i.e. the left hand mirror has a larger area vision and the drivers don't realise how close the cars are on that side and some of the latest cars it is almost the same for the drivers righthand mirror and the center mirror is true as to the distance a vehicle is away.
Let the RACQ do a test on all the latest cars built over the past four years on this matter (I am sure that their writers would have this on record from their vehicle road comparisons )
The vision as to what is behind them or alongside them is one of the major problems.
(5)How about the police dept having some family cars like I have seen on the M1 to the Gold Coast which are unmarked and the fast cars don't notice them until it's too late .Barry.

Smitty, I was sad but yet very relieved to hear that Christian Rossiter has been granted the right to die by the WA courts. For the first time in a very long time, I feel there is hope in this world! It really is about time. We have spent more time and effort looking after our animals than we have looking after people like Mr. Rossiter. His choice is really what counts. Landmark decision indeed! Congratulations to all involved in the decision.
Enjoy your weekend Smitty!!Tom Friday 14 August, 2009 - 3:57 PM -
You won't change our PM's mind with cold hard facts.
I think our PM has got it "Ruddy Wong" and must realise that he can't run this nation riding the backs of the working class because our backs are already broken.
Time for a politcal climate change in Canberra.Richard Edwards Friday 14 August, 2009 - 9:53 AM
