Paying the Taliban your money

taliban

Hello Mr Taliban, if I paid you a lot of money, would you please promise not to shoot at me and my mates any more?

Would you trust the Taliban?

Australia’s Government does.   With $25 million of your money, and the promise of more to come.

Australia has just donated $25 million to a new fund to encourage the Taliban to lay down their arms.   The fund was set up by that paragon of democracy and good governance the Afghan Government.   It hopes to attract $US500 million in donations to entice “moderate” Taliban members to stop fighting Allied troops.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Stephen Smith is in London at the conference where President Karzai is asking for money.

It’s always interesting to hear what the first thing a person says in these circumstances is.   It’s like when a new boss’s first statement is “no-one will lose their job”.   Our Foreign Minister said, “"It's not about buying them off, it's about showing to the people of Afghanistan that there is a qualitative difference between a hard-core international terrorist associated with al-Qaeda and a person who wants to partake in Afghanistan society fully ... who eschews violence and who wants to get on with making a better country and a better life for his family.

"We know there are very many people who fight with and support the Taliban who are not international global terrorists, who are not involved in a global jihad but they see no other role for themselves.”

So it’s not about buying them off.   Right.   And wouldn’t they be the most trustworthy people to give our money to.

On top of the $25 million donation to the Taliban, Australia will tip in another $50 million into an Afghanistan trust fund and another $20 million for mine clearance programs, plus another $4 million to support the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture and $1 million to the Afghan Human Rights Commission.

That comes the day after the Foreign Minister Stephen Smith announced an extra $12.5 million in donations to African countries as an inducement to get African countries to vote for Australia’s bid for a UN Security Council seat.

They are pretty free flowing with our money this government.   If I was a Taliban terrorist I’d lay down my gun for a little bit for the money.   Who knows what tomorrow might bring, god-willing…..

Nah - I do't think so - krudd is just as big a liar as untrustworthy as you are. I can see it now krudd with a towel on his head - and it fits perfectly.

  • Hey Wobbly, hows it going mate. It sure is about time that the people of this, our beloved Nation, woke up too themselves and started to give it to this arrogant little piece of swill, our First Minister. One who cares for his Nation and its People. He does not give a damn. He has sold us out, firstly to the Chinese, and now to the Arabs, and just to say "I did it my way". As you say Mate, World Recession my arse; Well mine too my good buddy, this arrogant, megalomaniacal egotistical little whimp has absolutely stuffed this Nation; he cares for no one, but himself and with him its me, me, me. And this treasonous, traitorous behaviour obviously runs very deep in Rudds Blood. The actions of his nephew are akin to the those of a traitor; I consider them to be treasonous. I cannot bear to listen to Rudd, or look at him; I do not believe that the Australian Labour Party knew what they were doing when they gave him the thumbs up for the No. 1 position on the card. Single handedly he has ruined a once great, proud Nation. The world is laughing at us. Oh well, at least I know that I didn't vote for the bastard.
Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who did???

  • This is really not funny. It's not your taxes that KRUDDY is giving to Islam. He has already spent all those and what's to come in the next couple of decades. He's now borrowing, probably from the arabs, to give it back to them and just "tack it on the bill"....
And we need Hospitals? Schools? lower taxes? a fair go for the aged pensioners?
I know where I'd like to put that bloody milky bar.
What are you doing to us you disgusting little flea?
Can't wait to see how much you spend on the Long Legged MacDaddy when he drops in.
And just can't believe that the idiots in this country gave you the opportunity to send us broke.
    World recession my arse.

Rudd says $17m on failed tender not a waste.
I wonder how Rudd will defend giving the Taliban money strange we haven't heard a word about this from him.
