Islam and the UN

Posted by: Michael Smith | 9 March, 2009 - 12:31 PM

I have some personal experience with the results of even mild criticism of the Muslim faith.

In January this year I said that I think it’s offensive behaviour to go into a bank with your face covered up.   It can cause a panic.   And I said that includes masks of any kind, including the burkha.

As a result of that comment I received death threats, including this Listen here

I’ve spoken to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the prominent Dutch politician and former Muslim.   She and her film-maker partner Theo Van Gogh produced a movie that was critical of Islam.   Van Gogh was later murdered by an Islamic zealot who pinned a death threat against Ayaan into van Gogh’s chest with a knife.   Ayaan lives under the threat of an Islamic fatwa – a death sentence – and all of that is because she criticises Islam. Listen here

The Dutch politician Gert Wilders produced the movie Fitna.   It’s critical of Islam.   In the past two weeks he has been refused entry to the United Kingdom – not because he’s committed any offence, but because the local Muslims might react violently to his presence.

Well the Rudd Government is participating in a United Nations forum that will try to make it an offence – a criminal offence – to criticise any religion, particularly Islam.

This is an unspeakable restriction on freedom of expression.   I can almost hear you saying “that can’t be right, Australia wouldn’t do that.”   It is right and under Kevin Rudd Australia is doing this.

Google it yourself.   The Durban conference and now Durban Two.   Christopher Hitchens has written about it here http://www.slate.com/id/2212662/

Lou Dobbs on CNN expresses how the United States feels about it here Watch clip here

Greg Sheridan of The Australian newspaper has written about it in the past few days here. Read article here

Kevin Rudd is hell-bent on Australia getting a seat on the United Nations Security Council.   And he’s apparently willing to appease Arab and African nations to do it.

Prime Minister Rudd has despatched our Governor General to participate in his dreadful plan. Read article here

The Governor General will visit Mauritius, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles and she will be lobbying for Australia to gain a seat on the Security Council.   The price we will pay for the support of these nations in our bid for a Security Council seat is clear.   The Arab and African nations want our support for the Durban resolution.

This should have all Australians very, very worried.   We must make it clear that this sort of restriction on our freedom of speech has no place in a democracy.   Get vocal!

  • Michael, Let them call me what they want, but I will not sit back and watch what happened in Victoria, repeat itself in my beloved Queensland. I put a human life, and a mans property and life long memories before a few tons of leaf litter and rotting stumps. I would like each and every Queenslander - yes Anna I use that word with love and respect - to remember that a vote for the Greens is a vote for the very same people who put leaves, mulch and dead logs before the more than 200 Victorians who lost their lives in the recent Victorian holocaust; admittedly God was there also but the "bleeding heart, tree hugging greens" were ultimately responsible for fuelling the fires. I would like Queenslanders to remember this at our upcoming State election.

  • krudd's agenda is clear, push for this UN seat, via any means and therefore secure for himself a chance at obtaining the UN Secretary General position. He'll be pushed out of the labor leadership by gillard when the time is right. So he is doing the ground work now.

He is such a slim ball that he is considering this so-called anti islam UN thing so he's sucking up to African nations for their votes.

Will the electorate out their ever wake up to the fact that labor's far left agenda (UN stuff, ETS, union friendly IR laws changes, push for a republic etc) is being quietly pushed along without any questions from the mainstream media. Please wake up before we find ourselves in some sort of socialist state where free speech is only ok if you are a tree hugging, muslim loving lefty.

  • Smithy,
One of the first appointments made by Rudd and his crones, the select few in cabinet, including the overt Lesbian Brigade, was to commission Mme Quentin Bryce to the position of Governor General.
You know who I mean, the mate of Wayne Goss, Peter Beattie, Anna Bligh. Why is it that I feel like a previous writer who suspects that there is an Agenda here being perpetrated by the Loonie Left of the Labour Party. None of the aforementioned M's P. will admit to being part of this secret group, but can you trust anything anyone of them might say, I certainly cannot. Always remember that Rudd was Chief Advisor to Goss and acting on his advice, and under his tuteledge, this State took huge leaps backwards. And Bligh has that convicted liar and cheat, Mike Kaiser on her staff, he was also a mate of Goss and Beattie. I rest my case.
