Government funding for offensive so-called art
The Melbourne Fringe Festival receives a lot of government money. Taxpayers' money from the luvvies at Arts Victoria and the Victorian Government. The "Key Message Partner" for the festival is the bit of the government that's involved with this marketing line - "protect your glory box, use a condom and lube". Got the idea?
One of the shows in their government funded get-together is "Beaconsfield; A Musical in A Flat Minor". Presumably the "flat miner" they're talking about is Larry Knight, who left behind a widow Jacquie and a family when he was killed in the Beaconsfield mine collapse.
Dan Illic is the name of the sick mongrel who created this disgrace - the blurb on his show's website describes the show as "the feel good piss-take of the year."
Dan Illic said he treated Mr Knight's death respectfully. "The only death we haven't treated respectfully is Richard Carleton's,'' he tells us. The veteran 60 Minutes reporter died of a heart attack outside the mine while covering the cave-in. The show includes a song dubbed Carleton Cardiac. His family must be thrilled and overwhelmed with the respect.
We need to get rid of the demented thinking that allows us - taxpayers - to fund this rubbish. The people who sit on arts boards, drink champagne at openings of shows and galleries, talk in weird uppity accents and think they know more than everyone else. The same people who think it's OK to scour schools looking for primary school children to pose as nude models for a photographer. And they call it art. This crap is not funny. Public money is being used to fund disgraceful, offensive rubbish.
We need to send a message to the government. Don't fund it. Festivals are wonderful - but not when they promote this sort of nonsense.

Mike- Why are you and some of the current crop of 4BC presenters continually telling listeners what they should or should not see. I think that most are intelligent enough to make up their own mind.

Philip - mate my point in this matter is the government funding to the festival that's hosting this "piece of art". Is this how you want your taxes spent?

Michael - I have a great lead for you to follow up, Why is it that Kevin Rudd feels it necessary to cart his wife with him on every overseas trip he has. At a time whe we should be watching every penny spent should justice not be seen to be done. I am not aware of many people in business that are afforded the luxury of having the wife travel with them at company expense
