Why am I not surprised the AFP is short staffed, when they stalk and intimidate everyday citizens, who dare to complain about human rights abuses and corruption. Complain about human rights abuses in this country and you are sure to attract unwelcome attention from the regimes politicised police, which no longer serves the interests of the people they are supposed to protect. Yes border protection will be an election issue, but I found Senator Brandis recent speech against a bill of rights deeply disappointing.
I will NOT be giving my consent to any regime to again govern against the national interest and continue in the same vein for the next three years. I will NOT enrol to vote this year either and that is my right.
Read Senator Brandis reported speech here: http://www.gympietimes.com.au/story/2010/03/09/senator-brings-rights-debate-to-gympie/
I would expect barristers, like Mr Brandis to strongly advocate for a human rights act instead of for continued excessive state power without protection for human rights for Australian citizens. During his speech against civil rights he said: a Bill of Rights would potentially erode democracy and damage the political rights of future generations, by enshrining this generations concerns into law...
Unfortunately I could not disagree with him more strongly and have already left my comment to the above article.
Interestingly when the words human rights actually come up in Australia it is usually about the rights of illegal aliens, juvenile delinquents or criminals. But we rarely hear human rights mentioned in Australia by politicians or human rights advocates? (where are they?) in the context of wronged Australian citizens and Australian born children.
Why exactly is that please?
