Flying Foxes and little girls
Compare and contrast this extract from the Nature Conservation Act Queensland with a hooligan running down a little girl.

88C Restrictions relating to flying-foxes and flying-fox roosts
(1) A person must not destroy a flying-fox roost unless the person
is an authorised person or the destruction is authorised under
this Act.
Maximum penalty—1000 penalty units or 1 year’s
imprisonment.
(2) A person must not drive away, or attempt to drive away, a
flying-fox from a flying-fox roost unless the person is an
authorised person or the driving away is authorised under this
Act.
Maximum penalty—1000 penalty units or 1 year’s
imprisonment.
(3) A person must not disturb a flying fox in a flying-fox roost
unless the person is an authorised person or the disturbance is
authorised under this Act.
Maximum penalty—100 penalty units.
drive away, a flying-fox from a flying-fox roost, means—
- (a) cause the flying-fox to move away from the roost; or
(b) if the flying-fox has moved away from the roost, deter
the flying-fox from returning to the roost.
Examples of ways of driving away a flying-fox—
using sound, light, smoke, electric current or chemicals
flying-fox means a protected animal of the genus Pteropus.

flying-foxes congregate from time to time for breeding or

POLICE have ruled out appealing a suspended sentence given to a man who ran down a nine-year-old girl in a hit-and-run late last year.
Amosa Junior Fetalaiga, 23, was given a six-month wholly suspended sentence and a $600 fine in November after he lost control of a car at 100kmh in a 60kmh zone in Redbank Plains.
His car struck nine-year-old Maddison Olsson, but the unlicensed driver sped off without checking to see if she was hurt.
Police prosecutors argued in Ipswich Magistrates Court that Fetalaiga, who has three pages of driving history and has never held a licence, deserved jail.
But instead he received the suspended sentence and was banned from driving for 18 months.
At the time, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) said it was considering whether to appeal the sentence and officers were preparing a file for Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson.
But a QPS spokeswoman this week confirmed an appeal into Fetalaiga’s sentence would not be pursued.
“After careful consideration of the prospects of success, public interest and comparable sentences in the context of the particular circumstances of this case, an appeal seeking to challenge the sentence imposed in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 16 November 2009 was not initiated,” the spokeswoman said.
Maddison’s mother Cherie Olsson said she was angry Fetalaiga would not spend any time behind bars for hitting her daughter and just driving away.
“I think he deserves something; even if it’s only a few months in jail it might give him time to think, because there’s still to this day no apology. He knows where we live,” Mrs Olsson said.
“I really don’t call what he got a sentence. I don’t see $600 and another suspended licence as punishment.”

Why is it that we import all this "trouble"? Once again the perpetrator has an Islander name....They are all here causing trouble and on the dole.If he has never held a licence..why didnt he get deported??? Also Maclean High School had a bat problem a few years back and it took years to get the appropriate permission to remove them...with guess what? the school band!!! Well they are back and once again they have to go throough the rigmorale of red tape...Oh how I LOVE Labor governments!! NOT

Absolutely disgusting. Simply not good enough. If the law is NOT acceptable, we the people, have the power to change it. I will vote for whichever party has the 'balls' to start changing our warped legal system and bringing it into line with OUR COMMUNITY expectations.
