Electricity Bills
The era of cheap electricity in Queensland is over.
The Premier announced the end of it today.
She’s banned new coal-fired power stations as we know them. Any new power stations will have the added expense of capturing the smoke and turning it into a liquid then pumping it underground and storing it.
Anna’s spin on this is contained in a new strategy she put out today aimed at green votes.
It’s called “ClimateQ: Towards a Greener Queensland”.
“ClimateQ: Towards a Greener Queensland” updates the previous strategy we’ve had since 2007. Of course you’d remember the change for the better in 2007 when we started with “ClimateSmart 2050”. And then we built on that work when we all started pulling out “Toward Q2” from the drawer every morning. All of those plans were very, very beautiful.
So you lose coalfired power stations. And cheap power.
But those chosen by the government to receive the grants to develop the new smoke-turning-into-liquid magic trick will get $87.2 million in funds. I wouldn’t be surprised if the people who get this government funding will put out a press release that says the new technology is very good. Their press release will probably say that “ClimateQ: Towards a Greener Queensland” is an even better response to the pressing challenges outlined in “ClimateSmart 2050”. And once they get their grants they’d probably do a bit more research and say that the “Toward Q2” strategy was very lovely as well. That’ll be great!
Me – I rather liked affordable energy.

TOOT, TOOT, WHISTLE, WHISTLE, is that Thomas the Tank Engine coming. Remember a while ago folks, a con man named Beattie informed us that at one of those "behind closed doors" meetings held from time to time, T.H.E.Y. had made a decision to sell off the Retail arm of our Power Generating Corporation - Energex; he told us it would be in our best interests as not only would we receive lots of $Kevs from the sale, but our electricity bills would be cheaper in future because of competition. Well my friends, it certainly is a lot cheaper now, eh. Oh no, a "PORKY PIE". Anna Bliar was part and parcel of that con job, she knew what was going on; and I have no doubt in my mind that further deception is in the wind with this mob of lying, cheating swill, and it will be interesting to follow "Annas" Fairy Tales as the sales of our Assets pan out. What can I say....

what we need NOW is a fully televised debate with all the players for and against to put their arguments up so this wacky "the sky is falling in" BS can be stopped, anyone with half a brain and access to youtube can find all the evidence to support "the science is NOT settled" Al Gore has 30,000 scientists suing him for global fraud.... and we have Penny Wrong saying the same crap..

Mike, Pinnochio has now joined 747 in the great carbon scam. She now will add to our already overpriced electricity by hobbling coal fired powerhouses. At the same time China is buying our coal & building more powerhouses. It is a pity Bligh & Rudd won't consider nuclear energy if they are truly thinking of the planet & not the wind fall in carbon tax. I read Japan & France have many nuclear plants with far safer safeguards than the unsafe Chernobyl.
Yesterday you expressed your disappointment in what now charades as a labour party.I grew up in the great depression & my parents were dedicated labor voters. I think if they were still alive I think they would now agree with me that the present party is a career path for the products of an education system who have never had to wash with Solvol[apologies to Mick Young].

We will have nuclear power in Queensland. It is better to have it now while the State belongs to us and not to foreigners. We need to stop wasting money on unproven science shrouded with fancy titles.

Hey Smithy,
I saw on the news early this morning about a UQ scientist that is developing a world first clean coal technology. The problem is of course that he is after funding to continue his work. From memory the news article said with sufficient funding this could be in place sooner rather than later. Wouldn't you think we would be investing in this sort of thing rather than the pseudo science of the ETS.Dale Stewart Thursday 20 August, 2009 - 3:56 PM -
Hey Smithy
There must be a carbon kick back scheme somewhere that we mere mortals are not allowded to know about, given that Chairman Bligh is now also on the bandwagon and to hell with the rest of usBrian Tucker Thursday 20 August, 2009 - 1:38 PM
