Economic Conservative?
Now I'm worried, very worried - about Kevin. Read Smithy's blog.
Our banks are strong and remain profitable. Yes there are very worrying signs ahead of us, but certainly during 2008 with low interest rates, low unemployment, falling petrol prices and inflation under control there were sound reasons for confidence.
I still don't understand how handing out half the surplus in December as cash bonuses did us any good. Anyway, it's done and we can't change it. It came out of a surplus so it wasn't too worrying.
But the drunken-sailor, debt-funded gifts of cash that were announced yesterday worry hell out of me. Not the infrastructure spending, but the gifts of cash that will hand about $5,000 in cash to a single mother with 3 kids.
This is crazy. The Rudd Government is borrowing money to hand it out as cash. Is it just me? By the time they're finished we will have another $100 billion debt to pay off. That means less money for police, hospitals, doctors, nurses in the future. It took 10 years to pay off the last debt orgy.
Who are the “struggling Australians” that we're handing out the money to? We remain at very low levels of unemployment. Petrol prices are low. Mortgage rates are at their lowest for 40 years. In general, prices are falling. We have always had struggling people – but where I come from you work your way up the ladder.
The worrying times for us are in the future. But we've fired all the shots we have in the locker now. Any future spending, when it may really be needed, will be funded by debt.
Kevin Rudd hasn't consulted sufficiently on this. He has put his proposals first to journalists and the nation's newspapers seeking the sort of headlines he's got today. He has given the Federal Opposition just 48 hours to study the detail of the largest spending package – a debt-funded package – in the nation's history. I'll say it again – 48 hours. Then he'll play the political game of saying “the Liberals are screwing the nation”.
We are fast becoming experts at shifting the problem. Not facing up to the underlying causes. Passing on the problem – with interest – to future generations
This is just crazy. It's shameful. And we will all be much the poorer for it.

Kruds infrastructure spend!
By the time the bureaucrats, greenies, tree huggers, snivel libertarians, do-gooders and save the ants (did I miss any) etc, have their two bobs worth in deciding where the big infrastructure speed will go, the recession ( and hopefully this government) will be well and truly gone!
Keep up the good work Michael, don't give in to the BULLSHIT!

You can't trust the ALP with running the finances of any State or Territory, history has proven this fact time and time again, they have done so with disastrous consequences. Most of their Ministers are from the Union Movement or Public Service and most have never held a position in Private Enterprise, so their knowledge of business principles and finance is left wanting. I don't decry these people in wanting to hold office in Public life, many of them are decent law abiding people, however they are all driven by a Socialist Ideology where Private Enterprise (Kevin Rudd's Neo Capitalist Theory) is looked upon as being something evil. I notice that his wife is a millionaire business-woman, you can't have it both ways Kevin!! that is being hypocritical.
Running an Economy such as the size of Australia's requires great skill and understanding, after all it is the largest business in this country.

Millions of the first handout went overseas as for some idiotic reason we are paying pensions to people who do not even live in this country. How did that come about? If Rudd & the Labor Party had an ounce of financial acumen that would have been one of the first things to be changed. I was a recipient of the first amount and I am using the money to get dental care as I would probably be dead by the time I get it under the Public Dental scheme

Wow! I'd had to see them if they disagreed with you on 'most things', Smithy.
I don't see any problem, at this time of global economic meltdown or any other time for that matter, with examining each aspect of any 'package' with a fine tooth comb. Better to check it all out. Remember a stich in time saves nine and all those proverbs that used to be taught in school? Don't put all your eggs in one basket, look before you leap! All very sound advice and should be utilised accordingly.
I think it is the average Aussie who is sh.. scared not Turnbull or Costello, Chris. Just the ordinary bloke/lady who can see our Country being plunged further and further into the abyss of unnecessary and extremely costly band-aids. Let them all get their collective heads together, God knows WE pay them enough, and thrash out a worthwhile and useful package and not another handout in cash to people who will not get off their backsides to help themselves. I am not talking about genuine people who have deserved much more than the crumbs they are thrown - I am talking about the ones who always have their hands out as if the Country owes them something and are not prepared to do one iota to help themselves. Here endith the lesson :)

Hey Smithy,
Most things I agree with you but this business of knocking Kevin Rudd all the time is starting to give me the sh..s.What would you be saying if our prime minister had sat on his hands and done nothing. pensioners screming, banks folding businesses closing their doors and no jobs for the boys or anybody else. The majority of australians voted the labour party into power and you seem to be calling all of us a mob of idiots if this is so I think it is about time all us idiots as you said should black ban your show you come over as a big chief smart ass who knows everythig and could see this world problem coming it's a pity the new president of America hasn't heard of you or he would be out here asking you to come back with him to fix up the world problems as you have all the answers..but then I had forgotten you are an ex cop who knows everything.
As for Malcolm Turnbull yes he is all full of BULL and now that Costello is back on the scene he is sh.. scared and will finnish up being Peters little puppet until he is ready to kick him out and take over his job.

Post script to the E-mail I've just sent, you could take this one step further by only offering the vouchers in exchange for Aussie made and owned services and goods, for example a Toyota made in Australia instead of an imported one or tickets with QANTAS instead of JAL or a tin of Golden Circle pineapple slices instead of Phillipines pineapple ,etc. you get the idea!! This is an EMERGENCY!!! If you only had one fire extinguisher in fire that engulfed your neighborhood? would you try to save your neighbours or your own house, this is what we would be doing by not EFFECTIVELY TARGETING Aussie jobs and product,,let's use the fire extinguiser wisely!
