Easter holidays
Why have we got a long weekend in a few days?
Just have a think about it. Why do we have a holiday on Good Friday and Easter Monday?
Why do Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have holidays for Eid ul-Fitr or Eid ul-Adha?
It all comes down to beliefs and traditions. Let’s face some facts. We are a Judaeo-Christian community. We have a holiday for Good Friday and an Easter break to recognize the historical fact that a man called Jesus Christ of Nazareth lived and was crucified on Golgotha hill after being condemned to death in a series of trials by the Jewish and Roman regimes.
It’s also a pretty well established historical fact that Joseph of Arimathea asked the Roman boss of the region, Pontius Pilate, for Jesus’s body. The story goes that when Joseph, Mary Magdelene and Jesus’s mum Mary went to get his body from the tomb the body was gone. The Christian interpretation goes on to say that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.
That’s why we have the break this weekend. So I don’t understand why our schools don’t teach our children about this history.
Jesus Christ is banned from our classrooms. I visit my daughter’s classroom and the teachers are teaching the kids about the Easter Bunny, Easter Eggs, Easter Bonnets and that sort of thing. But the teachers are banned from telling kids the historical story of why we have the break.
Have a read of this father's story
The Education Act of 2006 states religious instruction may be given for one hour a week but should not include teaching of "distinctive tenets or doctrines of any religious denomination, society or sect".
A Queensland Education Department spokeswoman said state schools were "multicultural and multifaith communities" and principals were sensitive to the range of beliefs within that community.
"When considering events of cultural and social significance such as Easter or Christmas, state schools should consult with the local school community."
Why are we so sensitive about this? We should either drop the Easter holiday or teach our kids why we have it. What do you think?

I think it is just as inappropriate to babble about a non-existent chocolate egg producing rabbit as one of the worlwide religous belief systems. This belief system is relevant to the Public Holiday. Time to be more tolerant people! Jesus is an important historical figure, whether he existed or not. And to Joe: The apostrophe??? Come on.... lol

I cannot believe that we live in such a miraculous environment that even the best scientists cannot access the extent of our universe, without a Creator. So that, if we accept that, then it is s short step to accepting that the Lord Jesus is and did what he did at Calvary.
If I am wrong, when my turn comes, then I have lost nothing but if if I choose to deny the Lord then I will lose everything, if I am wrong as will any who deny Him and who wouldn't want eternal life in what He has in store for us - that's a prospect worth anticipatingRAJ Monday 13 April, 2009 - 8:37 AM -
Jim,
the fact that your religion requires you to rely on belief instead of intellect and evidence demonstrates how hollow and false it is. Enjoy your delusion.Joe Saturday 11 April, 2009 - 1:48 PM -
Well Mike, you stirred a bit again this week.First up let me say that Jesus isn't just a belief system to me,nor is He a religion,He is real and ,referred to in history . The existence of God does not depend on what I believe anymore than his nonexistence
depends on what others may choose not to believe. He is because He is.
God has always been,He decided to create the world and all that is in it.He gave us a will to be able to chose,we failed by being disobedient. Now God is The Holy one ,and He cannot reward sin so He had a plan because He knew that we would fail.Jesus,The Son of God,was sent to earth to live a sinless life ,to faithfully do the work His Father,God asked of Him for OUR sake.Jesus became the spotless sacrifice who took upon himself the punishment for our sins.No one knows the day nor the hour of His return, but He says we should be ready for he will come "like a thief in the night".
If you want the truth then read the gospels, see how many times the old testament is referred to as having prophecied of Jesus coming, and how it was the "religious" leaders of the day, as much as anyonelse, that had him killed.Even that was the fullfillment of prophecy and in God's plan .
I am not an expert at theology but it is not by intellect that we are saved but by "believing "in the crucifiction and resurrection of Jesus, and confessing that He is The Lord.Jim Friday 10 April, 2009 - 9:32 PM -
Historical fact? Don't you mean ficticious nonsense? The reason this shouldn't (and in many cases thankfully isn't) taught as historical fact is because it is false. Do we teach our children about the exploits of Jimmy the Unicorn or Ophelia the flying Spaghetti Monster?
Jesus should be banned from more places than just our classrooms, and I can't honestly believe you're dumb enough to believe this twaddle as historical fact. I think such a post is designed to get a rise out of others. Well congratulations, I have risen...which is more than can be said for Jesus.

I am a catholic. I have some disturbing memories of my years at this private school? Don't get me wrong but i think it is a form of brain washing. I believe it is what your parents teach you that really counts? Not Jesus..
