CMC Complaint into Queensland Health

Mr Peter Scanlan
Executive Director
Crime and Misconduct Commission
GPO Box 3123  Brisbane   QLD  4001

Dear Mr Scanlan,

On Thursday, 19 February I was handed an envelope addressed to me and delivered by Australia Post.   The envelope contained a number of printed emails.   I have scanned the emails and posted them on my website at http://www.4bc.com.au/blogs/michael-smith-blog/labor-mates/20090220-8d3i.html?page=3

The envelope also contained an anonymous hand-written letter which apparently came from a Queensland Health employee.   The author wrote about being forced to work in an overtly political fashion in support of the political interests of the government of the day.   The author felt that his or her job ought to be to work in the interests of a health service and he or she thought the direction to work in a political fashion was improper.

I forwarded the emails to a Queen’s Counsel, Tony Morris QC and asked him to provide me an opinion.   I spoke with Mr Morris later that afternoon and you can find a recording of our conversation here - listen here

Mr Morris QC told me that the emails disclose prima-facie evidence of official corruption and that charges should follow.

I then spoke with the Director General of Queensland Health Mick Reid.   Mr Reid confirmed that the emails appeared to be genuine Queensland Health correspondence.   I asked Mr Reid to confirm that was the case, he phoned me back one hour later and said that he had been able to confirm that the emails were genuine.

On Friday, 20 February I heard the Health Minister Stephen Robertson speak with Madonna King on ABC radio 612.   Mr Robertson said that he had seen the emails.   He denied that they were political.   Tony Morris QC made the point that anyone who had seen this emails and failed to act on them may open to a charge of official corruption.

I feel bound to report these matters to you.   I ask you to investigate the operation of Public Relations staff employed on the public purse within Queensland Health and the course-of-conduct disclosed by these emails.   Both the Premier and Health Minister advise me that these staff are employed to promote health messages.   That appears to be at odds with the content of these emails.

The Director General of Queensland Health Mick Reid mentioned to me that he was thinking about asking your investigate this conduct within his department.   If he does I wonder if you might let me know of the terms of reference for your investigation.

Thanks a lot.

Yours sincerely,
Michael P. Smith

  • Just spent 15 years with a family that helped start the National Party, and can asure you all that the Police and CMC are more corrupt now than they have ever been. They also use crime stoppers and TV networks to cover up there tracks.

  • To: Expose Government Corruption.
Please consider exposing your case through my website SING (SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN ) SUPPORT GROUP. Exposure through quality media or through websites is the way to bring these matters to the attention of the general public.
I recently appeared on the SBS documentary 'Law and Disorder' and speak from experience when I say: exposure of corruption is the best way to get your message out.
You have already experienced the sham that is a reporting system by those you have mentioned in your comment. Your assessment is correct. The longer these serious matters are deliberately delayed, the easier it is for those in authority to have time to re-write history. If you would like to contact me, I can be reached on kaz3535@bigpond.com.au

  • I have evidence of continuing misconduct on the part of Qld Health employees relating to the care of my father. For the 2 years my father was alive but had been compromised due to bereavement & negligence of a family member, I spent every day writing to Senator. Ministers, Dept of Health & Aging etc etc. It was all to no avail & my father passed away in terrible circumstances of negligence by staff who left him to die with an empty oxygen cylinder & didn't contact me because they had once again 'lost' my contact nos. I have never given up on my vision of exposing the misconduct & after my father's death managed to get Qld Health to do an investigation. It was dragged out for years & when I finally rec'd a few pages of the final report - nearly everything was unsubstantiated even though I had evidence otherwise. I have since (August '09) sent emails to the HQCC, CMC & OIC. CMC are a sham - tried to follow up with them & was stonewalled. HQCC are still trying to access information from relevant Government departments but little do they realise that all this information is censored by their legal teams. OIC managed to get me the full reports but all the relevant information was blanked out. Lack of transparency is the greatest problem in this country. I know there are allegiances between govt depts etc which harm normal australians on a daily basis. If there is anything I can do to help..just ask.

  • I was sacked by Qld Health in June 2009 because I am the Whistleblower at Yaralla Place Nursing Home Maryborough. I was sacked because 7 cases of serious elder abuse had happened in this home and Qld Health didn't want anyone to know. I totally agree that Qld Health are corrupt and the worst is the Director General Mr Michael Reid. My email address is hector2009@bigpond.com, please reply if you are being bullied, I may be able to help.

  • My employment was terminated by Queensland Health on the 19 February 2009. My crime: I brought the sexual abuse of 7 female residents by a male predator to the attention of the media in March 2008, after exhausting all internal and external avenues. I leave Eventide, Brighton with no reference and no notice after 9 years of service. I have begun my own website called SING and this website contains some damning evidence of how Queensland Health treats its employees and its so-called protected Whistleblowers.
