Climate Change

I'm very concerned at the Federal Government's treatment of conscientious scientists like Professor Bob Carter, Professor Ian Plimer, former head of the Australian National Climate Centre Bill Kininmonth. These eminent men of science are being discredited by the unbalanced approach the government is taking to climate change - check out this website.

I've spoken to each of those men on the air. They say that climate change is real - yes the climate varies, but human activity and in particular carbon dioxide emissions aren't the cause.

The Prime Minister says unequivocally that human activity and what he calls "carbon pollution" are the cause - listen here.

Even the Federal Opposition is on the bandwagon. I've spoken to Malcolm Turnbull and he is a true believer in the mantra. Malcolm says that he takes the Rupert Murdoch approach - which is to give the planet what he calls the "benefit of the doubt" and act to cut emissions. I think the Rupert Murdoch approach is more to do with selling newspapers and appealing to the existing public sentiment - that is that most of us are convinced that human activity is causing climate change

Most of us get our information about this issue from the television. Most television reports about climate change feature visuals - mainly ice bergs breaking down, polar bears on bits of ice, smoky cars and vapours coming from large chimneys (almost always the evaporation stacks at power stations - which produce only water vapour).

I really think we urgently need to at least listen to those who have a view other than Al Gore's. We are about to commit our economy to a devastating new tax - the Federal Government's Emissions Trading Scheme (now re-named by the spin merchants in the government as the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme)

Professor Garnaut's report to the Australian Government on climate change is a weighty scholarly work - it's 680 pages long and as you would expect from an eminent scholar like Professor Garnaut it's a well-produced report.

It's very clear that Professor Garnaut wants it to be take its place in our country's history. After the launch of the hardback version of the report last week we learnt that there was no Australian-made paper good enough for the book - the paper it was printed on was imported from Italy at a cost of $18,000 (and according to Climate Change Minister Penny Wong the carbon miles in flying the paper out weren't calculated or offset). link

But Garnaut's report makes only scant reference to the alternative theories beyond those put by Al Gore and the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Those views rate a minor mention up front - but beyond the initial reference it's as if the theories underpinning the new religion of climate change are facts of physics. They are not - they are theories and I think we need a lot more attention on getting to the cold hard facts.

  • Global Warmin is big business and even bigger business if we are silly enough to implement an ETS system.

Whether or not you believe in Global Warming all steps to stop this crazy tax on the poor need to be taken.

We dont need or want another consumption Tax.

  • And the Rudd Govt, is spending over $140,000 a day advertising something which could be based on a complete fraud. They are not prepared to debate the matter either.
Its good that people like yourself Michael encourage a closer look at all this hype.
