Climate Change Bandwagon
When you sponsor a child with World Vision would you rather your money went on food, clothes and shelter – or would you prefer your donation was spent on “finding solutions to address the impacts of Climate Change?”
World Vision’s CEO Tim Costello is currently advertising for 4 highly paid executives to develop “solutions for climate change.” The new Commercial Strategy Advisor will build a new business through Climate Change corporate partnerships. The Strategic Technical Advisor will verify and validate carbon credits, while providing technical assistance in the design of carbon reduction projects. The Project Manager will provide multi-disciplinary support and an understanding of how climate change relates to international development.
Still wondering where your monthly payment to sponsor a child goes? Read on.
The Climate Change Advocacy Campaigns Leader will lead “the development and implementation of World Vision Australia’s Climate Change Advocacy campaign to influence policy outcomes and increase public engagement”. That means lobbying the government and putting out important sounding press releases. Will the world really be better off with another spin-doctor pushing the idea of Climate Change?
There’s a large, expensive ad in the weekend press seeking applications for those 4 jobs with World Vision. The ad starts with the line “Climate Change is a key strategic priority for World Vision Australia. We are looking for talented and committed people who can help build our capacity and expertise in finding solutions to address the impacts of Climate Change.”
How many people around the world do you reckon are feeding from that particular band-wagon? Every university, government, NGO, big-business, trade union, and social-justice group – pretty much every wealth-consuming group around the globe thinks part of its reason for being is to find a “solution to the global problem of climate change.”
So World Vision, the organisation that asks you to sponsor a child, thinks its key strategic priority is to find a solution to climate change.
World Vision’s CEO Tim Costello earns $250,000 per annum with considerable tax benefits that come from working for a not-for-profit organisation. I wonder whether those people who contribute to World Vision want their money going on gabfests about climate change. Most decent people who send their money get satisfaction from knowing that their monthly payments go directly to pay for shelter or education for a child in poverty. World Vision would do better to focus on food over flavour of the month political ideology.

Hate coming back to this, but it's a very good blog Michael.
I feel like a big pewk when I think about that bloody swipe, hiding behind a religious robe, milking all those poor buggers who, in many cases, can ill afford the money, in the belief that they are helping impoverished children.
Costello and Fraser should both be cast adrift somewhere. (Preferably together).
The bludgers never got me, but what recourse does a nice genuine bloke like dennis have?
They can't fix the poverty dennis. They would have nothing to use as a fundraiser.
The $250,000 man is another of our national disgraces.
I'm going nuts just thinking about what the bludgers are doing to this beautiful country.
If only the cult was a reasonable alternative to all this crap.Wobblyone Friday 26 November, 2010 - 4:29 PM -

Love all this.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Malcolm Fraser was listed, either now or in the past, as being on the Board of World Vision.
That was enough for me.
Those so-called charities are a bunch of blood suckers. The only charities I consider to be genuine are "The Salvo's" and St.Vinnies. Forget the rest and concentrate the funds where they will achieve what they are intended to achieve.Wobblyone Tuesday 10 November, 2009 - 7:30 PM -
