Break-ins at Burleigh and Elanora
Police investigate overnight break-ins at Burleigh and Elanora
Gold Coast detectives are investigating four break-ins on business premises at Burleigh Heads which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, July 13 and which may be related.
The break-ins occurred between 2 and 4am in the vicinity of Kortum Drive and involved various types of businesses including a bowling alley, café, motorbike shop and a design business.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Toby Wilkinson from the Southern Investigative Group said investigations to date reveal that all four offences are believed to be linked.
“All of the break-ins have a similar method used to gain entry which is the smashing of glass panels and all are in close proximity with each other.
“We have been able to obtain CCTV from one of the businesses which we believe could assist us with our investigations into identifying those involved,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Wilkinson.
In an unrelated incident police are seeking public assistance to try and identify a distinctive utility which was used in a break-in and attempted theft of an automatic teller machine (ATM) at a service station at Elanora this morning.
At approximately 3.50am a silver utility with chrome mag wheels reversed towards the entrance of the service station. The offenders got out of the vehicle and used an unknown implement to smash a glass window situated near an ATM.
Entry was gained to the inside of the building through a broken panel and an attempt made to move the ATM. The offenders were in the premises for a short time before getting back into the vehicle empty handed and fleeing the scene.
At this time this offence is not believed to be linked to the break and enters at Burleigh.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Toby Wilkinson will be available to speak about both matters:
When: 2pm, Wednesday July 14
Where: Burleigh Heads Police Station, Matilda Street
Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
