Blog: Health system a disgrace

The health system in Queensland is a disgrace. And while the system has been in decline for many years, the current crisis centres on a failure of leadership. Listen to the interview here

We know that, we feel it when we talk to people who are unable to see a doctor in an emergency ward because the emergency department is blocked. Listen to this 80 year old lady whose son, in his 40s, had a stroke during the night. The ambulance service simply couldn't get an ambulance to her

Or this mum whose little 7 year old had an asthma attack

Or the mum whose little 5 year old boy was taken by ambulance to the Mater Children's Hospital. He had to wait an agonizing 32 hours. Yesterday, Stephen Robertson said I was dishonest in saying that this child was a victim of Queensland Health. He said the Mater is a private hospital and not part of the Queensland Health hospital network. What rot. That is absolute BS and this incompetent minister knows it. The Mater is funded by Queensland Health. The minister himself introduced the "Mater Public Health Services Bill" to the parliament on 11 September this year. I"ll quote a little from Stephen Robertson's speech "The Mater public hospitals at South Brisbane have played an integral role in the delivery of hospital care to public patients in Queensland for many years…..Queensland Health has traditionally provided funding to the Mater for the delivery of health services to public patients at the Mater public hospital….(this) Bill has been developed to acknowledge the special relationship between Queensland Health and the Mater. Download full speech here

The thing that really gets me about this man is the complete lack of empathy he shows for the victims of the crumbling system he leads. He has no compassion. He simply acts as if he doesn't care.

You need to be the judge. Let Anna Bligh know whether this sort of performance is good enough

  • The Qld Health Styerm, well what can I say.I would not treat dog they way the Qld Goverment treats the mentally ill in Qld. As a mother of a suffer, and having to deal with this system, these people are treated like secound class people, by Qld health everyday in our large hospital in Brisbane, and this has happened to as not once, the number of I have given up counting. So it is about time Qld health started to do the job that they get paid for.

Bligh and her so called health minister remind me of Laural and Hardy. Bumbling their way of health policies.
To all you knockers of Michael get a life and face facts. Labor has gone past their use by dates.
11 years of labor and what have we got
    1. Dilapidated health system.
    2. Which Doctors(Patell)
    *********
Labor party in Queensland will lose the election not due to the opposition but due to continued mistakes in policies regarding health.
Queensland cannot afford to let Labor run the state for the next 3 years
