The Gabe Watson case is a prime example of where politics driven by ideological principle collides with reality and the consequences involved.
Gabe Watson deserved a Murder Trial, deserved a guilty verdict and to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Which in a state where the Police and Judiciary were truly independent would have most cetainly occured.

The rule of law has broken down as I detailed in Breakdown of the rule of law http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/03/425273.html which was also published by The Wall Street Journal Online. I understand the grief, despair and shock at our system of injustice only too well. We too were repeatedly denied a trial by jury in front of politically appointed judges, who cared little about the rule of law and justice.
Basic human decency, human dignity and fundamental civil rights were never part of the equation! Not only did I as a layperson have to defend my son against aggressive government barristers, we were not heard, repeatedly abused and intimidated. And our courtroom tapes and transcripts were repeatedly severely edited to deny us the evidence and to pervert the course of justice.
Even though my allegations are corroborated by sworn statutory declarations from retired journalists and by an independent expert, I was repeatedly denied an independent investigation and also denied media coverage.
When I informed Parliament, Premier Anna Bligh laughed and my own elected Member of Parliament, John Mickel, the Speaker of Parliament shouted to have me ejected. Prime Minister Rudd also ignored me when I personally met him at a Community Cabinet Forum.
This is the sad state we are in. And the so-called -public servants- (my fellow Australians) are unpatriotic, indifferent and only protect their jobs, and not our fundamental human rights. Nor are they upholding the rule of law. But who cares?
Gabe Watson could not have chosen a more corrupt state!
