Anna Bligh is Responsible

Anna Bligh can't avoid responsibility for putting recycled hormones, sewage, blood, vomit, oil and other crap into my family's drinking water. As of a day or so ago, Anna Bligh says the decision on recycled sewage is now in the hands of the Water Commission led by Elizabeth Nosworthy. She'll take the Water Commission's advice. God help us.

Not the Health Department. But Elizabeth Nosworthy and the Water Commission.

Anna Bligh's government is weak and vacillating. Wherever there's possible political heat for their decisions they point to an independent body - "it's their responsibility". The hapless Stephen Robertson points to The Health Quality Complaints Commission. Electricity price rises used to be held to the CPI before the Beattie/Bligh government de-regulated the industry - now the energy minister Geoff Wilson says the Queensland Competition Authority is responsible for past year increases of 11%, 5%, and 10% next year.

Anna you can't avoid this. Your government promised a referendum on recycled sewage - then you back flipped. Your government said Armageddon solution only - then you back flipped. Your government said recycling for industry first - then you back flipped.

As we can see from the skies, rain-water is now available in abundance. It costs us $100 per megalitre for normal dam water, $500 for recycled water and $650 for de-salinated water. Why the rush to spend more money than we need to?

The National Health and Medical Research Council water quality advisory commission chairman Don Bursill who drew up the national water safety guidelines says this today "It is just common sense that if other more conventional sources are there and available, then you wouldn't want to go ahead with it (recycled sewage). Nobody seems to be recognising the fact that it is human error that is the source of most concern when it comes to problems with the safety of drinking water systems."

Just imagine this. One fine day the big boys from Leighton Contractors front up to the Brisbane City Council with the PowerPoint presentation and the glossy brochures. They're trying to flog the Council a management system for the Inner City Bypass. What are the chances the sales-pitch goes like this?

"This technology is rock-solid. Oh, sorry, just one little thing. One day a telemetric sensor will fail during a mega-storm and the ICB will be flooded with 11 mega litres of water, a couple of taxis and cars will be stranded - actually it's pretty lucky no-one will be killed. But please buy the system anyway."

Of course they didn't. No one expected the system to fail. But systems can and do fail. And politicians have to take responsibility for the decisions to install them.

And here's something about next year's state election - as far as I know Elizabeth Nosworthy won't be standing.

  • anna you were voted to run this state,us the voters are sick to death of bad exuses like "its worse o/seas " yesterday a child was stabbed and as usuall she brushed it off with a pathetic excuse .just like every other social problem in this state of nothing matters, its the same for health, aged care, education. problems in schools exists everyday.the lack of support to problamatic kids is outragious, its no wonder kids are getting more violent and frustrated . i know of vollunteer groups that do wonderfull work but never touch on the real problem which is bad home life and wrecked families ! everything is covered up ,our kids are our future ! anna start listening and stop brushing of every social problem that exists, they are very real !you are a non caring premier and at the next election you wil be ignored like you ignore this great state of ours and the people who live in it !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What an arrogant self-centred egomaniac Malcolm Turnbull is. The Liberal party has NO choice now than to expell this judas before he quickly destroys any chance the coalition has to compete against his true masters - Mr Rudd & Ms Gillaird - in the election next year. It is almost like a movie script. Mr Rudd's plans were foiled by the good guys so he sent his agent to destroy them. Mr Abbott, exorcise this cancer from your party urgently!

  • Thank-you Anna for abolishing the fuel subsidy, increasing registration fees, selling off essential Govt assets and basically lying to us all pre-election.
I'm predicting a landslide next election.

  • Well today the Bligh government has announced funding for police to crackdown on night clubs and bad behaviour. Perhaps if some funding was also put into schools with smaller class sizes, teachers being able to discipline children we would be able to take care of these problems earlier - not when they children have turned into badly behaving adults full of grog. And what a wonderful way for her to take the public's attention off : the traverston dam; the sorry state of the health system which is only getting worse; the disgusting inforcement of the sustainability form; rememberance day; the fact that our schools are some of the worst performing in the country; etc etc etc etc etc ; so she puts money into the police KNOWING THAT EVERYONE WILL APPROVE (and hoping everyone will forget all the other rubbish for which she and her government are responsible for).

  • Dear Anna, Im not feeling so well, it started when you put the fluoride in the water... I have had to buy a Reverse Osmsosis water filter which cost me 700 dollars installed, in you govt site you say they are 300 but they are of very poor quality and just dont do what they are supposed to do. Is it ok if i send you an invoice for the filters, as these days i am not well i dont have much work so need the money. Thanks so much. Love always Shane
p.s I dont think i will vote for you next time as you appear to not listen to the people, which is kind of important, dont you think?
