Michael Smith editorial - The federal government's suggested mining super profits tax of 40 percent on resources profits has already created friction in the mining sector with some of the worlds biggest mining companies already reviewing future expansion plans. Michael Smith talks about the impact and importance on mining in our country, and then goes onto say other mining strong countries are ready and waiting to pick up the work.

Hey - with so-called "asylum seekers", nobody has EVER asked the BLEEDING OBVIOUS - not one journalist, bureaucrat, or hopeless politician. WHERE DO PEOPLE SUPPOSEDLY WRACKED & DROWNING IN POVERTY GET BDETWEEN $10-$15K A HEAD TO PAY FOR A CRAPPY LEAKY BOAT!!!!!????
They are either selling drugs, guns (or worse both), or are a 5th column of terrorist cells coming here to do us over - & we're wide open.
The Danes have stopped these types from polluting their country. They gone ther FIFO route - about time we grew a set & did the same thing - & it's paid off in spades for them, socially, politically, economically - we need to learn the lessons of history because we're so stupid these days we're continually repeating them!!.

The Rudd government's new tax is like "fooling around" with the goose that lays the golden eggs for Aussie. The 40% is very much in-decent- dealing with that goose. No government with any fiscal ability would dream of risking what the miners are already flaging as a result of the threat of this new tax. The mere intention to impose the tax is enough to cause the damage even if the tax is blocked or repealed by the Opposition. This wont just effect the mining communities but will flow- on to every "Australian working family". The damage will take years for a competent government to repair. Get ready for huge lay-offs everywhere.

Hi Smithy
This government could not organise delivering pink bats into your roof how on earth do you think they will be able to organise fiscal policy that will work. It is a blatant cash grab that is going to have severe ramifications on Queensland and Australia.
WHERE ARE THE BANKS AND THE FUEL COMPANIES IN ALL THIS? We have become so anesthetised to the blatant rip off to fuel their profits we donâÂÂt even complain anymore.
