  • Ban the bloody thing. I was in Newcastle recently shopping with my mother at Wallsend. I was bending over taking something out of the boot of the car. As I looked up I got the shock of my life. About a foot from me was a person dressed from top to toe in intimidating black. The eyes were piercing and penetrating. I was frightened.

  • In these times, I feel it is a security issue and if people wish to wear the burqa, they could wear it at home, but when out in public, it should be banned. It is very confronting and causes suspicion. The person is unidentifiable. To me it is another form of branding a person in a certain way. Some make the choice to wear them, others a forced to wear them by the males in their families and if they do not "obey" the male, they are then shamed. I support those women who wish to wear it for their own reasons, but, I cannot and will not support those women who allow a male to dictate to them what they should wear.
