I’m afraid I am going to have to be one of those annoying people that say “gee November already...where did this year go?”

Instead however I can’t believe we are at the end of 2009!

It seems like just yesterday we were debating when the true end of the 20th century was (was it the end of 1999 or 2000?).

And of course this time a decade ago we were preparing for the world as we know it to end thanks to the Y2K bug.

It seems like just yesterday doesn’t it!

Yes I know the decade, which has been dubbed the “naughties”, doesn’t end until the end of next year (let’s not get into that debate), but what a ride it has been so far.

Some of the highlights for me include the election of Barack Obama, the amazing technological breakthroughs we have witnessed and personally the birth of my two daughters.

Unfortunately there are many lows including the spread of terrorism and the resulting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the global economic crisis, and the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

The decade so far in movies has been dominated by big sagas like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings.

Johnny Depp helped reinstate the old pirate movie genre with the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and Heath Ledger breathed new life into the Batman franchise.

It was also the decade of Shrek and his faithful donkey.

On TV, well I have to say we have probably seen more highs than lows mainly because reality television ruled the airwaves – Big Brother, Survivor, Biggest Loser...

Let’s hope the novelty has worn off!

We have seen the internet turn music upside down as more and more people download their favourite songs rather than head for a record store.

Some of my musical highlights in the “naughties” include seeing the Beatles again at the top of the charts, while the sad death of Michael Jackson at least got his songs back on the radio.

And finally in fashion, well it’s been a case of everything old is new again with most teens wearing clothes and accessories that wouldn’t have looked out of place in 1983!

So there are some of my ups and downs, let me know what your high and lowlights were.

One thing I am sure you will agree on however is it has been an exhausting decade so far...I think we all deserve a good lie down!
