Pregnant pause, good advice for men everywhere
You know the situation, you see a bump...do you ask or do you play it safe?
I recently had a business meeting with a female colleague who I had not seen in person for a good six months.
As we sat down I noticed what could have either been a baby bump or I guess the result of a big and satisfying lunch.
We as human beings have programming in our DNA to instantly blurt out “Congratulations, when is the baby due” the moment a protruding navel is presented to us.
But the strangest thing happened; it was like nothing I had ever experienced before.
The sentence was formed in my brain; it travelled down into my mouth and when the words were just about to leave the tip of my tongue the emergency brakes were fully applied!!
I kept my big mouth shut.
It was one of those great moments for mankind, forget about walking on the moon I had beaten our DNA!
Leaving the meeting, and still very proud of my enormous self control I was left wondering “is she or isn’t she?”
Well it turns out yes she was, but anyone who has ever gotten it wrong (and lived to tell the tale) will tell you in this situation it is a much, much better idea to keep it to yourself!

Being asked "when are you due" can happen after birth too, as I found out a couple of months after my first born. Sleep deprivation and emotions meant it didn't end well!
