  • John of Caloundra would be happy in a dictatorship. We shouldn't be force to vote in the first place. In fact government using a driver's licence as a tool of bullying a voter has just summed up the nanny state we live in.

  • Scott: So, according to you, a person should be permitted to flaunt the laws by not voting; then not paying the fine levied; then not paying the penalties levied for not paying the fine within 5 years?
He was notified regularly; he just said he was travelling too much to get the letters.
Vote in the first place and this doesnt happen.
It isn't stalinist. It's just the legal way that SPER go about recovering bad debts.

  • If you don't pay a fine you should be summonsed to appear in court. If you fail to appear or do not pay a court imposed fine, you should then be arrested for contempt of court and may be jailed.
The RTA are not magistrates and should not be able to dish out sanctions for anything at all.
Sounds like a Police State policy to me - Vote 1 Stalin?

  • @JOC if I understand this correctly you agree that if you do not vote then you should be fined and if you do not pay the fine you should loss your licence. But if you vote rort like ALP member Mike Keiser and you fall on your sword you then get a $400 thousand plus job with the NBN.

  • Cry, socialist, communist Queensland eh? Rightio then.

I suppose the fellow could have paid his fine. Or better yet, actually voted. Rather than whining about things after the fact.
