Supporting rural Australia

rural

The 4BC Drive show was alerted to this tax payer expense this week...

Dear Michael and co, I love your show and thought you might get a laugh from this use of taxpayers money!!!

I was driving home this afternoon and passed an impressively decorated bus and an associated tent complete with brochure racks and at least two staff members. The bus was decorated with these captions on the side - 'Australian Government- supporting rural Australia' 'centrelink - giving you options' and 'in your community and here to help'.

And you might ask where this bus was set up for the day - not Mt Isa or Charters Towers or Charleville - no it was located on Santa Barbara Road at Hope Island. Not sure how many people in the area are recipients of Centrelink benefits nor how far from Brisbane you have to be to be classed as 'rural'.

Pertsonally, I haven't seen any sheep or cows around for a while!!! Seems to me to be an admirable sentiment in the right place and A GREAT WASTE OF OUR MONEY AGAIN!!!!! I was so shocked that I stopped to take a photo!

  • Smithy, would it be possible to find out who ordered that
    ridiculous waste of OUR money
    at Hope Island.Perhaps then
we could ask them why they
    wasted OUR money and then
    demand OUR money back,out of
    their overblown salaries of
    course.Could you put a rocket
    up Centrelinks backside and
    maybe get some answers?
