4BC Afternoons announcer Kim Mothershaw spoke with local resident Richard Lancaster in regards to the SURVIVING Bee Gees Barry and Robin Gibb making a sentimental journey to Redcliffe - the seeding ground of their worldwide success - later this year.

This was to celebrate their 50-year career where they were launched on the path to international stardom, however plans have been apparently snubbed by Queensland authorities. Instead, there are now talks of the Gibb brothers will be honoured with a special tribute event in Sydney.

Show your support and leave a comment  to show the authorities that we want this on our Peninsula.

  • Brian I find it so sad that you think a persons loyalties are automatically where their origins come from. Being an imigrant myself and having moved to Redcliffe at age 8 I can tell you that those young years are crucial. I am sure that the Gibbs brothers remember Redcliffe most fondly and like myself work, commitments and family may take them else where, but at heart I'll always be a Reddie Gal just as they have always been our boys. I sincerely hope they come home! if not then I assure you I'll see them in Sydney.

  • I am sorry but as per a previous comment, the BEE GEE"S were just migrants in passing, they stayed here for a short while. Australia gave them a start and they moved back home as soon as they found some fame, Australia was never really in their thoughts since then. Please tell me, when have mentioned that they owe Redcliffe anything for giving them their first break - NEVER !!

  • Oh come on they are legends at the least, we should be welcoming them with open arms and miles of red carpet. My how people forget what used to make them happy and tap there toes. I will never forget them, and if Redcliffe doesnt want them, the Gold Coast does. Ill be there with bells on. Bring them on.

  • The Bee Gees never were Aussies but intransit Poms who visited, didnt like the country, and left.
So why invite them at taxpayers expense to visit Q150 celebrations except for the fact they are "Celebs". surely a better local dignity could be had/got to celebrate the official occasion.

  • What a disgrace and how unfortunate that we have these bumbling Keystone Cops as our elected representatives to the rest of the world. What City, State, Country in their right mind wouldn't be extremely proud to regard 'The Bee Gees' as prodigal sons and what City, State Country in the world wouldn't fall over themselves to accomodate the remaining legend's offer to return home and participate in our state's 150th celebrations. We should have the red carpet rolled out all the way from the airport to Redcliffe for them but instead we have an embarrassing, beauracratical, ego driven stuff up that will potentially cost the humble public an opportunity to celebrate and reminisce with these once local, very talented musical geniuses.
