Rudd's Supertax

Kevin Rudd

Glen Milne, columnist with The Australian, joins Greg Cary to chat about the government’s ‘supertax’ and how things are going a little awry from the original proposal. This could be another nail in the coffin for Kevin Rudd, with his inability to admit that he could be wrong. Listen now and have your say.

  • I totally support the Rudd's governments new super profits tax. These are NON-renewable resources that mining companies are exploiting. The mining boom is creating a two teired society - with those in the industry getting massive, unsustainable salaries. I say distribute the wealth from our - Australias - resources - to all Australians.

  • Resources belong to the Australian people.
I hope the shareholders of Rio Tinto , BHP, and EX-Strata are aware of this.

The resources belong to those who pay millions of dollars for licences and permits, then spend years of development and exploration to find and extract the minerals.
If they were owned by the people, then why are we mining in other peoples backyards overseas ,or don't they also "Own" their minerals.

  • Since the introduction of fuel discount dockets from the big supermarket chain, with the price of food and other products going up ,plus fuel as well why is the public still only getting a 4 cent discount for fuel.Shouldn't it be up to at least 8 cents a litre off, I'm sure they can afford to reward their customers in a small way,we all need to go grocery shopping every week and need our vehicles to transport the goods home.what do you think?

  • Did I get this right? Resources belong to the Australian people, therefore Kevin07 can shift the goalposts on the mining industry and blame the Australian people for doing so. Then those Australians who did none of the work, put up none of the capital and took none of the risk have decided, according to K07, to grab several billion dollars from the industry and have K07 disperse it at his own sole discretion.
Perhaps it is time to revisit The Little Red Hen!

  • A Super Tax from a Super Grub. Crudd is the most pathetic Prime Minister this country has ever seen. This Tax just highlights two things, 1. As a nation We are BROKE!!! and 2. This person cannot be told ANYTHING and that regardless of what anyone else thinks he is right. Well Mr Crudd YOU ARE WRONG and we the people have had enough and will dismiss you and your lame, bankrupt, incompitent government at the next election.

  • This is the end of Rudd. This will have him kicked out of Canberra. The ALP cannot recover from this even if they back down on the mining tax. It's over, red rover, and I'm very glad of it.
