Police chase

QLD Gold Coast Police Chase from Fairfax Radio on Vimeo.

Watch this startling high speed chase involving a stolen car, where police were forced to withdraw after the pursuit became too dangerous. Police are appealing for witnesses. Should the police have pulled out? Have your say.

Blog comments Your Say

  • The car was recognised as being stolen through its rego presumably. I wonder how everyone knows, without stopping the driver, what he and his passengers have done! What other crime have they committed?
Police should chase these criminals to the nth degree like they do in other parts of the western world.

  • Sadly, if you are drink driving or speeding and directed to stop. Don't. At worst, if your not caught within two hours, police cannot charge you with drink driving, but will charge you with evade police. $200 fine is far better than losing licence for drink driving or speeding... and that's only if police can identify you and link you to the offence. I am against speeding on our roads, and yes, i deplore drink driving. But this is the situation that has been created. People WILL make a decision based on likely outcomes. Congratulations Coroner BARNES, you have just handed these people the key to the city.

  • Young hooligans are killing themselves and other innocent road users through acts of stupidity and total disregard for the rules of the road. These are the fatalities occurring when Police haven't detected the offence and haven't given chase. Just because Police endeavour to do their job and attempt to apprehend these idiots, when they do detect them, it is seen that is the fault of the Police if a fatality occurs.Law and order in this state is of great concern. You only have to listen to 4bc and Smithy to get an idea of the magnitude of the problem. One of the main reasons is that politicians and the judiciary are stopping our Police from doing their job.Give them resource backup, moral backup and protection against being sued for doing their job.A Police helicopter would be a good start followed by another hundred marked police cars. This so called Premier is more interested in building sports stadiums and "pouting" about the multi million dollar bid for the next Commonwealth Games.I agree with Peter of Brisbane 28.1.10.We do need to be outspoken about Law and Order or rather the lack of it.

  • The evading driver is totaly responsible. It is THEY'RE behaviour that make chases necessary.
The cold, hard message shoulde be -
"If you're prepared to speed, you're prepared to KILL."
    Absolutely NO argument.
So, anyone who is caught engaging in a police car chase - any deaths, any injuries, any property damage - they should face the HIGHEST possible charges for. Not to mention facing charges for endangering life, and other traffic infingements.
Short answer - Make evading drivers fully, totally 100% responsible.
Additionally, let THEM face the law suits.

  • Don't blame the police. They are the ones crucified if someone is killed. But I believe they should be able to chase them down - equip police cars with bullbars and side bars and bump them off the road. If the little grubs survive, make it a mandatory 5(minimum) years in jail for anyone evading Police. Pfft....I'm dreaming...I live in a pathetic soft lawless country.

  • this is a case where there should have been at least another 4 or 5 police cars involved where they could have stopped the car by boxing it in position where it could not go anywhere or indanger anyone, and be taken into custidy.instead we have one police car in a fruitles chase with no back up from senior police or government.
regardless of whet our mr.atkinson has to say,we do need a chopper up in the air regardless of costs.
