Major General Alan Stretton
Former Australian of the Year, Major General Alan Stretton, has spoken out against the war in Afghanistan, which is more prudent after the recent deaths of two Brisbane based soldiers. Greg Cary asks the question of the Chief of Staff during the Vietnam War, do we have an obligation to be there? Listen now.

Major General Alan Stretton, how we remember this great man. He was a true hero. He has the measure of this government, in sending our young men to be slaughtered will not win this war. It is unwinable. Our government knows it. Let the blood of our young warriors be on the hands of our present politicians on both sides of the house. You are all short sighted, self interested loons. All hail the hero, Alan Stretton, man and great humanitarian.

The Vietnam War was unwinable when China and other neighbouring nations assisted Vietnam. We now welcome with 'open arms' Vietnamese from both sides of the war. Australia welcomes with 'open arms' Communists from Vietnam and Russia.
We are not 'lackies' of any country. We go to war to support our friends - nations that we have similar beliefs with.
The Kyer Pass and the Islamic nations have always been a problem to "conqueor". I thought we were in Afganistan and Iran for oil supplies. Oil is the name of the game. Sadam Hussein set it on fire to make that point. We aren't in their to educate or liberate their women. It is the dirty polluting oil. Oil that is making some families rich beyound belief, earning wealth beyound what they require to live comfortably. The families that control the oil companies have for decades bought out alternative ideas that can be used as an oil substitute.
IF WE are so against the Taliban why are we allowing so many of them to fly in and stay in Australia. Supposed refugees. Why did we expel an Israeli diplomat?
I cannot see any reason to be wasting tax payers money in Afganistan.

I salute you, sir.

I am sure that the 1st strikes on Afghanastan killed Bin Laden.
I beleive he was buried in a moun tain on the 1st days of the strike.
I saw a programme on the ABC that documented all the videos released of Bin Laden since 9/11.
Today's computer technology can now sample a voice, then reproduce it to say what ever they want.
The only images of this man seen since 9/11 have been on video.
The USA has its own agenda here and I beleive it is not in the best interest of the ANZUS alliance.
Bring our boys home and lets protect our own borders and fight our own drug problems here.Richard Wednesday 9 June, 2010 - 12:53 PM
