Indigenous seats
The state government’s Integrity and Accountability green paper has been released and one response from the Torres Shire is that there should be seats reserved in parliament for indigenous representatives. Agreeing with this is Aidan McLindon, and Michael Smith quizzes him on the possibility.

Props for the Queensland Youth Parliament plug Aidan.
It's politicians like you that allow our program to continue to make a difference and allow young Queenslanders to have their voice heard!

We dont need special seats set aside for indigenious
MPs.That will only promote
division.What we do need is
for our current politicians
of all parties to really
listen to them.We need to
make our Mps see them as
real people not as votes at
the next election.John
Howard made the brave choice
to get rid of the bloated
corrupt waste of money that
Atsic had become.Lets give some real supprt to people
like Noel Pearson and the
elders in the communities.
And while we are at it get
rid of "do gooders" who have
no idea of what that really
means and the extreme greens
who only care about their
own ideological agenda.Then
and only then will we get to

Seats in Parliament should be reserved for Politicians who have the countries best interest at heart.
Minority groups govern for the minority.
No special seats.
No special privallages.

I dont like this idea. I come from Fiji and the reason why there have been so many political problems is because the parliament is made up of x amount of seats for indigenous fijians, x amount for indians and x amount for others. Fiji is trying to get rid of this and become more like australian parliament, i hope australia doesnt go down this track. If indigenous australians want to become a politician then they can run like every other australian no matter what your background.
