With an abundance of great home grown product, local potato farmers are struggling with cheaper international imported product. 4BC Breakfast talks with third generation potato farmer Pompey Pezzelato about the struggles imported product creates for the local industry.

  • Importing food into Australia that is the same or comparable is a national disgrace.

    That we have an over abundance of a product to the extent that it has to be sold then maybe we can have our government purchase it and send it to countries that are in need. This would be a better use of our international aid program than just giving monies to some of these dysfunctional countries, which simply spend the funds on weapons of war.

    If the international trade deal requires that we import Canadian pork to be able to sell our citrus products to Canada, then maybe we should encourage the citrus growers to convert to another crop that can be sold here in Australia.

    I have never been able to understand why when this country of ours is able to stand alone, outside this crazy international trading which only serves to debilitate our own industries, we have behaved as if we have a pair of twos when we have a royal flush.
