A Mexican standoff

Kevin Rudd

Government MPs are starting to take sides as a showdown between Prime Minister Julia Gillard and her old boss Kevin Rudd appears inevitable.

Mr. Rudd declared he was a changed man before jetting off overseas to Mexico amid mounting speculation of a leadership spill within weeks.

The Australian newspaper has done a head count and reckons Ms Gillard has 51 MPs backing her, Mr. Rudd 31 and with another 21 undecided meaning both camps are short of a majority.

Over the weekend, a video leaked on YouTube showing Kevin Rudd swearing during a recording while he was Prime Minister.

Julia Gillard has denied any involvement in the leak, although division within the ALP remains at a fever-pitch.

Watch below.

Michael Pachi in Canberra reports Kevin Rudd has been planning a leadership challenge as far back as last year

It is common knowledge that Vote early vote often is the CATCH cry of the ALP. This underling thought of vote rorting is now clearly supported by having Mike Keiser in their ranks as a self-confessed vote rorter. No such scandals have at all been attached to the conservatives so you can not say that vote early vote often can apply to any political party.

  • Amy, what was the content that I needed to focus on? I think you have your hands full with calling out other posters on this board for not focusing on content and instead playing the man! Go and get em!
Cry, I didn't say that it wasn't valid simply by virtue of being an Americanism. I just say that it can be reasonably applied to any political party, not simply Labor.
And as to Labor being an Americanism itself? You'd need to speak to them about that. I've no view on it.

  • JOC do not point the finger at CRY for using an Americanism when your beloved ALP spell LABOR as the Americans do; you still have not addressed the content of his posting! !

As for Tony Abbott not being "enormously electable", he appears to be very popular in his electorate of Warringah.

Why would the people of Australia not want a man in the prime of his life, experienced, principled and focused; physically fit well loved family man; well respected by his peers, no possible destabilising leadership spill on the horizon there!

Yes you may well point at Malcolm Turnbull, who was toppled from the leadership because he was doing a Kevin07 (making arbitrary decisions without the support of the caucus, majority or otherwise), but after the showing the Conservatives put up in 2010 with Abbott as the leader I do not think Mr. Turnbull has a s*#t show in hell of getting the numbers

  • @JOC
If the fact that "Vote early vote often" is an Americanism and therefore holds no relevance in an argument, the same must go for the ALP as a whole, because Labor is the American spelling, therefore by your rules the ALP should have no standing.

    CRY FREEDOM Thursday 23 February, 2012 - 2:26 AM
  • Well, Cry, not unusually, you would be mistaken. But carry on!
"Vote early vote often" is an Americanism if i'm not mistaken.
    Meow.

  • @JOC, I can only assume that since you are more intent of focusing on my misuse of a phase in a blog and not the actual content, you must agree with the content of the blog that being that the ALP believes in VOTE EARLY VOTE OFTEN. And automatically putting people on the role facilitates this.
