An independent panel will investigate explosive allegations levelled at Hawthorn about their treatment of Indigenous footballers.

An external report has revealed claims that key figures at the club demanded the separation of young Aboriginal players from their partners.

In one instance, the club is accused of pressuring one couple to terminate a pregnancy for the sake of the player’s career.

It’s alleged the treatment occurred while Alastair Clarkson was coaching the club.

AFL CEO Gil McLachlan this morning told a press conference an investigation will be conducted to “get to the bottom of it”.

“These are serious allegations and it’s important we treat them appropriately,” he said.

Hawthorn says it’s providing support to those who took part in the review.
